Meet Brittney Boyle, the Director of Business Development for Utah at Overland Construction, a family-owned enterprise since 1985. Overland excels in delivering top-tier commercial, residential, and industrial construction services, with a specialized focus on multifamily and hospitality sectors. Operating in Utah and Arizona, Overland Construction is known for its excellence and reliability.
Brittney’s journey is a testament to her dedication, expertise, and passion for the AEC industry. Let's dive into her inspiring career path and insights.
Where have you worked previously and who is your industry mentor?
I began my career in the AEC industry as a Marketing Manager at Ascent Construction, guided by my mentor, Bob Murri. Bob taught me how to navigate RFP/RFQs and network effectively, and he instilled in me the confidence to succeed. His mentorship has been pivotal in my career. After Ascent Construction, I moved on to become Marketing Director at Hughes General Contractors and later at Pentalon Construction. These roles provided diverse experiences and prepared me for my current position at Overland Construction.
What is your education and training?
I hold a B.S. in Business Administration from Queens University of Charlotte and an M.S. in Marketing/Market Research Analytics from Southern New Hampshire University. Attaining a master's degree was a goal I set for myself several years back. Two years ago, I entered the program, balancing full-time work and raising my three boys, who range in age from 10-1/2 to 15. At times, it was challenging, but I am proud to have completed the program this spring. During that time, I also became Google Analytics certified.
Author's Note: Brittney modestly mentioned that she graduated from her Master's Program with a 4.0 GPA.
Where did you grow up?
I was born in Taylorsville, UT, and moved to Mesa, AZ, at age 10. Later, I lived in Lexington, KY, and Charlotte, NC, before returning to Utah in 2012.
What did you want to be when you were young?
I always wanted to be a Marine Biologist. I love the ocean and marine life and wanted to figure out a way to live underwater. I was fascinated with Sea World and all things oceanic, and to this day, I never miss an opportunity to put my toes in the water.
What motivates you most to come to work?
The chance to be part of the growth and development of my community motivates me. It's incredibly rewarding to drive by a building and know I played a part in bringing it out of the ground. Relationships also motivate me; I've met outstanding individuals and learned from both great examples and cautionary tales. Knowing that my contributions make a difference to the organizations, the committees I am involved in, and, of course, the people, drives me each day.
What’s one productivity tool you couldn’t live without?
My calendar—I live and die by it! It helps me manage my professional and family commitments effectively while also ensuring I'm fully present in all areas of life.
What podcast do you listen to most frequently?
My favorite podcast is New Heights with the Kelce brothers. It’s not by happenstance that my favorite podcast is sports- and family-focused. This podcast resonates with many of my experiences and values.
How has your sports background influenced your professional life?
Sports have long played a significant part in my life. I played collegiate soccer and coached for 12 years. Now all three of my boys play tackle football. From sports, I’ve learned the importance of teamwork, resilience, and strategic thinking. These lessons translate directly to my professional life. Thinking with a team mindset comes naturally to me, and I intentionally approach projects, problems, and opportunities with a collaborative approach. I believe that success is achieved when everyone fulfills their roles and works together towards common goals.
