Award-Winning Carol and Jim Laub Plaza—Downtown District Core Reimagined
In a continuing effort to revitalize downtown Logan, Utah, the Logan City Redevelopment Agency (RDA) partnered with Think Architecture to develop a design that would embody its culture in a re-imagined downtown district core. The city's small town vibes, agricultural roots, innovative business, research university, and endless outdoor recreation were the foundation of Think's architectural design approach. Incorporating an outdoor stage, ice rink/splash pad, administration building, and a variety of outdoor amenities, Think drew out the heart of Logan while creating a space to bring its community together.
Since the plaza was approved in spring of 2021, Logan’s redevelopment agency invested nearly $6 million in the project. It included the demolition of the old Emporium building and some adjacent structures to make space for this new gathering place, which will draw Logan residents downtown with year-round attractions, events and entertainment.
The Carol and Jim Laub Plaza opened in September of 2023. On March 14, 2025, the Utah Recreation and Parks Association awarded the project Utah’s "2025 Outstanding Facility of the Year." This award recognizes achievements in the design and development of public facilities throughout Utah.
