Beaverdam Reservoir Park Boathouse—Blending Nature and Innovation

Nestled in Loudoun County, Virginia, the newly opened Beaverdam Reservoir Park offers a compelling example of how architectural design and environmental stewardship can come together to serve the public. Completed in October 2024 and now entering its first full summer season, the 60-acre park is a key phase in a broader vision to enhance public access and preserve the natural setting surrounding the Beaverdam Reservoir.

Visitors to the park enjoy a full range of amenities, including hiking trails, picnic spots, fishing areas, and a shared-use path, alongside new facilities such as a welcome center, pavilions, and an innovative rental boathouse at the water’s edge. This modern boathouse—designed by Studio 27 Architecture and built by Meridian Construction Co.—stands as a focal point for the park, offering both functionality and visual harmony with its natural surroundings.

EXTECH/Exterior Technologies played a key role in achieving this balance through the custom design and fabrication of their Lightwall 3440 system. Installed by Modern Door, this polycarbonate cladding system spans all four sides of the boathouse, including its large bi-fold doors. The material was selected for its lightweight, impact-resistant, and insulating properties, which are ideal for structures exposed to frequent use and changing weather conditions.

The Lightwall 3440’s clean lines and translucent surfaces not only enhance the building’s energy efficiency but also reflect the park’s goal to promote source water protection and ecological education. By using advanced building materials to support sustainable public infrastructure, the Beaverdam Reservoir Park project represents a strong model for future community-focused developments.
