The Power of Moments by Chip and Dan Heath
Reviewed by Amber Winn, Wright Engineers

Defining moments shape our lives and, in the case of Amber Winn come in the form of books. Although it may be happenstance that she found The Power of Moments by Chip and Dan Heath, she’s grateful that a colleague suggested it for the SMPS Emerging Professionals Group (EPG) book club.

“Building great relationships with our clients is a must and one way to do that is by creating memorable experiences. This book is a how-to when it comes to creating experiences with lasting impact,” reveals Amber. “Rather than wait for defining moments to happen, we can be the authors of those moments.”

The book explains that there are four elements to creating memorable moments: Elevation, Insight, Pride, and Connection. “Not only does it teach the element, but it backs it up with real-life examples,” states Amber. Using one or more of the elements in creating a moment will increase the likelihood of it becoming a memorable experience.

“If we make ourselves vulnerable to failure and allow ourselves to stretch then we will gain insight,” she finished. “We will never know how far we can reach unless we stretch.”

Amber Winn is the Director of Business Development and Marketing at Wright Engineers.
