During the campaign the HerculesConsolidated B 24 Liberator The Allied Expeditionary Air Force was formed to control the tactical air power of the Allied Air Forces during Operation Overlord. It was also a component of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force commanded by General Dwight D. Eisenhower. On June 6th 1944 over 12,000 allied aircraft flew 14,674 sorties.
