On his wrist was a one of a kind Breitling Navitimer, custom built for space with a 24 hour dial. Carpenter had known the pilots chronograph from his days of flight training and trusted the functionality of its computational slide rule. With that flight, the Cosmonaute became the first Swiss wristwatch
