Constructed of glazed off white earthenware, the exterior bearing striking hand painted imagery consisting of a central 1914 Iron Cross, situated within an oak leaf wreath, wrapped in a black, white, and red Imperial tri colour ribbon, joined together at the bottom by a banner bearing an inscription of WELTKRIEG 1914 1917 (WORLD WAR 1914 1917), topped by a German national eagle, situated above a unit dedication reading 1.
