Baden, Grand Duchy. An Order of the Zähringer Lion, Grand Cross Newly Listed mounted to a silvered brass(Orden vom Zhringer Lwen Grokreuz). Instituted 26 December 1812 by Grand Duke Carl Ludwig Friedrich. (1840 1918 issue). Constructed of silver gilt with coloured glass and enamels, consisting of a Cross Patte with its arms joined through the quadrants by intricate arabesque latticework, the obverse arms inset with cut dark green glass, bearing a central enameled medallion featuring a hand painted depiction of the tower of Zhringer Castle, set within a
