Constructed of bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, consisting of a Cross Patte, the obverse bearing a wreathed monogram of Duke Friedrich II, topped by a crown and situated above a date of 1914, the reverse bearing an inscription of FR VERDIENST IM KRIEGE (FOR MERIT IN WAR), unmarked, measuring 37. 26 mm (w) x 42. 24 mm (h), weighing 10.
