Instituted on 27 June 1866 by King George V of Hanover. A medal constructed of brass bronze (Messingbronze), the obverse shows the head of the founder looking toward the left, circled by the inscription GEORG V v, G. KOENIG v. HANNOVER, the reverse presents an open laurel wreath tied down, inscription reads LANGENSALZA 17. JUNI 1866, maker mark JAUNER in the neck section
