I assume it was made in Japan for Western export

and great in the hand--I would probably hang it on the wall (probably via a couple of tiny nails between the teeth) or simply set it on a tray with a few other lovely and interesting things

) So here are two just found in Maine that more than pass muster--a pear with some very nice bruising

Reddish Stained Old Treen Canister oil and gas truck I assume it was madeAnother sort of thing I just can't pass by when I come across them; who can ever have too many treen boxes and bottles and canisters? This very phallic looking one bears a reddish stain, with an indent in the rounded top which seems as if made to meet a flat head screwdriver or coin in order to twist off the top, but I really have no idea! 3 7 8" t x 1 5 8" in diameter. Top slides over bottom and comes off easily. Early 20th century I would think.
