Unlike a flatbed scanner, a Coolscan scans the film directly not through glass for maximum detail. Scan resolution is up to 4000dpi. Important note: this scanner connects via Firewire, not USB. You will need a computer with a Firewire connector to make this scanner work. Fully tested, this scanner includes the SA 21 slide adapter, Firewire cable, and power cord. Nikon does
