Her body forms a base such that the carving can stand upright
This little curiosity is one of my favorite finds ever--and a pretty rare and precious one from what I have found
The postcard back is not printed but rather completely hand done

Max Ulrich "Uli" Schoop Terracotta Bust of Young Woman hand-painted wooden plate Her body forms a baseMax Ulrich (Uli) Schoop (1903 1990) was a German born sculptor, painter, printmaker, who lived and worked in Paris (1928 1940) then Zurich, Switzerland, where he was a professor of art at the University of Zurich from 1953 1973. This wonderful small bust is signed but undated, but based on other works I believe likely dates to the 1940s. Finely sculpted and beautiful from every view, I find her quite a thoughtful, curious and gentle seeming presence!
