Description
Akio finishes the vessel by applying different colored slips (liquid clay)—a technique that he has refined over the last 30 years—to create richly varied surfaces that are complex to see and touch
but the form is all about softness—a small object that feels good in the hand
with a ring of blue at the base that speaks of the water that collects inside

Tea Towel in Taproot Hosting Akio finishes the vessel byThis tea towel is a collaboration between Madda Studio and the weavers of El Camino de los Altos (ECLA). ECLA is an association of 130 Mayan women weavers from the highlands of Chiapas in Southern Mexico. This is the first product designed and produced in collaboration from beginning to end. The project provides an opportunity for newly trained weavers to put into practice the knowledge they have gained.
