Death of William II of England mb-code 2378455 Coronation of King George VIDeath of William II of England, 1100 (1864). William II (Rufus) (1056 1100), King of England from 1087, was shot and killed by an arrow while hunting in the New Forest. The third son of William the Conqueror, he was a widely unpopular ruler, leading some historians to theorise that his death was not an accident.
