The Delta Barrage, Cairo, Egypt J.G. Parry-Thomas by Jessie NoakesThe Delta Barrage, Cairo, Egypt, c1920s. Completed in 1862, the Delta Barrage was a dam which was intended to improve irrigation in the Nile Delta area of Egypt. However, its foundations had been so poorly laid that it could not be used as a dam was subsequently marked as a romantic river crossing instead. Plate taken From In the Land of the Pharaohs, published by Lehnert & Landrock (Cairo).
