A bit of research reveals that it is in fact a Victorian era invalid carriage --I've included an advertisement from the 1890s featuring one very similar

Set of Three Old Folk Art Carved Books, One Stone + Two Wood figure in topcoat The portrait was carvedIn the span of a week I found a series of five carved marble and wooden books two large ones, posted last week, and then these three small ones, which I think are quite nice to together so am listings as a set. The olive and brown stone of the marble one is really beautiful, and I especially love the gilding to the "pages" of the larger wood one. (And the three carved bands on the spines of both of those make them especially nice together.) I do
