I like this old carved panel just for the looks of it

but it's as sturdy as they come should one want to put it hard to work as a stool

I am always amazed things like this little box have endured--just about 200 years

I can't quite decipher the name written in ink on the inside of the leather cover flap or on the first inside page

Book as Object: Unusual Marbled Hymnal Score Covers, 1848 Copy of Uncle William and His Nephews incised lacquer box I like this old carvedEvery time I venture to Pennsylvania I seem to come back with at least one book I've purchased for its covers alone, as is the case here. The book itself is a 1848 copy of "Uncle William and His Nephews" (a moral and religious tale that was a staple of 1840s Sunday school libraries) published by Lane & Tippett, New York, for the Sunday School Union of the Methodist Church, 200 Mulberry Street, and printed by Jospeh Longking. There are a few nice
