1st Aero Squadron Lapel Pin cradle con with sewn binding to layThe 1st Aero Squadron, the United States oldest flying unit was stationed at Mitchel Field, on Long Island, NY from 10 10 1919 through 11 06 1940. The squadron aided in training and experimentation during the interwar years and made several advancements in the US Military during this time. The 1st Aero Squadron insignia is painted on the museums Fokker D. VII to reflect the aircraft stationed on the base during this period.
