The Frenchmen in Billinsgate Gregory Lovell depicting an alderman asleep in'The Frenchmen in Billinsgate', 1754. A street scene; a Frenchman, his fists doubled, recoils from a fishwife who is in a fighting attitude; another fishwife, seated, holds a lobster to his buttocks, which are exposed through a hole in his breeches; the Frenchman's companion spreads his hands in horror but lends no assistance.
