But what really makes it is its fantastic surface

Their scale makes me think they were made to be pin cushions rather than quilt blocks, but I'm not entirely sure. I do believe they are pretty old and entirely stitched by hand which is quite evident from the backsides, which I think are almost as lovely as the fronts. Perhaps pieces to be made into something new, now, or
