Voorhees of San Francisco who was active in the temperance movement (mentioned in the local paper on a visit to see her sister in Ohio in 1886)
This one does not bear a patent mark that I can see and I think may not be quite that old
with the only challenge being picking a favorite pose and then fixing it in place with a couple of strategically placed little nails--under a knee or foot for example
While it seems most likely this watercolor was done just after Porter's engraving
Beautiful Small Labrador Inuit Carved Doll in Seal Skin Parka and Pants name stamped tool Voorhees of San Francisco whoI find the carefully hand sewn hooded parka (made of seal skin I believe) worn by this small Inuit doll quite an amazing thing in and of itself, but also really loved removing it to reveal the fantastic long legged proportions of the doll inside! All the better to see his wonderfully carved and rosily painted face, too. 1920s or so I believe, with a "made in Labrador" sticker still attached to the back of one leg, and so lovely it just about breaks my
