Description
The level of detail and the interplay between form and surface treatment on this contemporary ceramic vessel is sophisticated and surprising
with a few small hairline cracks around the neck of the crane on side 1 and one scrape to the surface of the lower section of the planter on side 2
is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art
which included fine antique and contemporary items from around the world
Yup'ik Northwest Coast Native American Lidded Coiled Grass Basket Oisin Kelly sculpture The level of detail andThis is a very lovely vintage Yup'ik (Northern Alaska Native American) coiled and lidded basket, mid 20th century I believe. Handwoven of beach grass, with dyed red and green grass used for the snake like decoration, repeated four times around the perimeter of the basket. There is a nice warm patina to the grass, and I especially love the topple, a signature of Yup'ik baskets. A wonderful addition to a collection of baskets or simply a beautiful thing
