which I imagine was custom made for the purpose

presumed mid- to late-19th century

Which may have been exactly how the artist who I'd guess took the photo

Honest construction, clean lines, good age, quite useful, but what really makes it for me is the clover club shaped cutout, backed with glass which makes it feel a bit like a bee
