It was made to hang (the hanging loop is original to it), such that gravity forces the slider down to rest on top of the lower ball, but when laid on its side it can be positioned however one likes. It's an old one, carved of pine I believe, with wear to the paint along the corners, to the good I think. 4 5 8" tall (5
