In 1964, a young Elvio Cogno, then cellar master at Poderi Marcarini in La Morra, did something almost unheard of: he put a single vineyard name, Brunate, on the label. It made Marcarini the pioneer of cru Barolo, predating the now famous bottlings of Giacosa and Vietti. The 1964 was a great harvest, and this wine from the celebrated Brunate cru became legendary. This is a mature, traditionally made Barolo from one
